Adoring God for Our Great Salvation

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)

In Peter’s opening eulogy, he calls the attention of his readers to the great salvation that God the Father has set into motion through His Son, Jesus Christ. If we can liken salvation to an illustrious diamond, it would have a seemingly endless amount of facets that accentuate its intrinsic beauty. In verses 3-5, Peter calls our attention to 5 of these facets:

I. THE SOURCE OF THIS GREAT SALVATION

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”

II. THE MOTIVE BEHIND THIS GREAT SALVATION

“According to His great mercy…”

III. THE ENTRANCE INTO THIS GREAT SALVATION

“…He has caused us to be born again…”

IV. THE HOPE OF THIS GREAT SALVATION

“…a living hope…an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading…”

V. THE ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY OF THIS GREAT SALVATION

“…kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
